On May 4, Google started releasing the basic update in May 2020. We knew it might take a few weeks to fully come out, but based on everything we’ve seen so far, this update is a very comprehensive update. We’ve asked a number of data companies that monitor Google’s search results to send us a feel for this update and they all agree, this is one of Google’s biggest fundamental updates in a long time.
The facts. What we do know from Google, as we previously reported, is that the basic update for May 2020 started coming out at 3:50 pm ET on Monday, May 4th. Like all basic updates, this is a global update and is not limited to region, language or site whatsapp phone number list category. It’s a regular “basic basic update” that Google releases every few months.
Previous updates. The last previous basic update was the January 2020 basic update, we had a review of that update here. The previous one was the basic update in September 2019. This update felt more vulnerable to many SEOs and webmasters, as many said it didn’t have as much impact as the previous basic update. Google also released an update in November, but one is specific to local rankings. You can read more about past Google updates here.
